Policy

In support of its commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) and as detailed in Makerspace Adelaide’s WHS & Return to Work, Makerspace Adelaide recognises its obligation to ensure that contingency arrangements are in place to ensure the safety of workers and other persons in the event of an emergency.

To facilitate this, Makerspace Adelaide has implemented a Work Health and Safety Emergency Management system for the effective management of foreseeable emergencies in accordance with legislative requirements and the Performance Standards for Self-Insurers (PSSI).

The WHS Emergency Management system provides organisations’ emergency control framework and response guidance, with the intention of preventing injury to workers, visitors and neighbouring people and damage to premises, in emergency situations.

Scope

This policy is applicable to all Makerspace Adelaide workers and relates to all Makerspace Adelaide activities undertaken.

This policy should be read in conjunction with any legislation which affects Makerspace Adelaide workers, relating to WHS and RTW.

Principles

The system provides the Makerspace Adelaide’s Emergency Management Framework and response guidance, with the intention of preventing injury to workers and other people and premises, in the event of an emergency.

The system specifically addresses these requirements by providing this policy and the following supporting procedures to manage emergency situations:

● Internal Emergency Management

● First Aid arrangements

These procedures are designed to provide guidance of emergency arrangements in the event that an incident occurs and as part of the WHS Management Framework. Other procedures may be added under this policy as identified. Makerspace Adelaide will regularly review in consultation with workers and/or their representatives and subject area experts (as necessary):

● The effectiveness of this policy and supporting procedures to identify opportunities for continuous improvement;

● Adherence to this policy and the supporting procedures and take appropriate action where non-compliances are found.

Responsibilities

The Makerspace Adelaide's Officers are accountable for ensuring that adequate resources are identified and provided to enact this policy and supporting procedures effectively.

Makerspace Adelaide Officers and Leaders must consult with workers and their HSRs to allow for monitoring of the effectiveness of this policy, in accordance with legislation. Leaders are accountable for bringing this policy and supporting procedures to the attention of affected workers in their area and monitoring, through their supervisory activities, that the policies and procedures are adhered to.

Leaders are accountable for ensuring affected workers have had appropriate training to undertake the activities identified within this policy and supporting procedures. Affected workers are accountable for adhering to the requirements of this policy and supporting procedures or reporting any inability to do so to management at the earliest opportunity.

Health and Safety Representatives are accountable for assisting the Makerspace Adelaide's Officers, Leaders and workers in adhering to this policy and supporting procedures.
