Site Induction
Site Inductions are to be run to all new members. This induction can be run by any competent volunteer. The induction is necessary for them to use the space freely.
Most content in this induction can also be used for a guest tour, if you are unsure what to say (excluding Emergency and Safety section).
Housekeeping
Toilets: We have three toilets on-site. All are located in the back end of the building (two in the workshop, one off the kitchen). One of the toilets are accessibility designated and is accessible via the workshop. We have a baby changing station, also located within the accessibility toilet.
Kitchen: The kitchen is accessible via the hallway. There are facilities there for use by all. There is kitchenware for use as well as facilities to make yourself hot drinks and store your food. please take note of our kitchen etiquette document above the sink.
Opening hours: See current opening hours. Opening hours can be viewed via the website, facebook and posted on our front door.
Signing in and out: Sign in/out is located at the front desk. Please make sure to sign in when you arrive on site and sign out when you leave.
Personal belongings: You are responsible for you own personal belongings. Makerspace Adelaide and its volunteers hold no responsibility for personal belongings going missing. Please keep bags with you at all times and do not leave them unattended.
Volunteers: We always have at least two volunteers on site at all times. They are here to help you use the machines and work on your projects.
Emergency and Safety
Fire exits: Each room has an Emergency Evacuation Plan. These are located next to the doorways. Each room has a designated fire exit and fire exit path. Please follow the plans unless told otherwise by a volunteer or fire warden.
Assembly point: In the event of an emergency, the designated assembly point is located on the other side of Franklin Street, in front of the Tesla Chargers.
Fire extinguishers and hose reels: Fire extinguishers and hose reels are located across the site. You can see them on the Emergency Evacuation Plans. They are usually denoted by the corresponding signs above their located, mounted to the wall.
First aid kits: There are three first aid kits on site. One is located in the front room next to the front desk, another is located in the cupboard in the kitchen. These two are general kits. The third kit is a major trauma kit and is located in the workshop in between the two workshop doors.
Working areas
Digital Fabrication Lab
Digital Fabrication Lab is where we house our laser cutter and 3D Printers. This is one of our more busier areas. Here you are able to work on your laptops to get your jobs ready for the machines. There will usually be one volunteer in this area at all times to help you with you projects. You can purchase material sheets from us, which are pre-cut for use in the laser cutter. We supply the printers with filament and charge 25c per gram.
Sewing and Textiles Room
The Sewing and Textiles Room is where you can come to do your soft crafts such as sewing, knitting, quilting etc. We have sewing machines and overlockers in this room ready for use. We also have hand tools for this area housed in the rolling cabinet and a wide variety of material and remints for use. We ask if you are using this areas consumables such as remnants or thread, to give a donation via the donation buckets to directly at the front desk.
Electronics Lab
The Electronics Lab is where you can tinker away on electronics and arduino projects. We have a wide variety of desktop machines for use. We also have a wide variety of components which are available to use for a donation cost.
Classroom
The classroom is one of our multipurpose areas. It's mostly used for workshops and events, but can be used for anything. You may use this area to work on your projects if you need extra table space, or if you'd like to use a desktop computer pre-loaded with the software we use on site for our machines in Digital Fabrication. This room is also fitted with a projector setup which can be used with volunteer supervision.
Main Workshop
The Main Workshop is where most big projects get built. This is also where you can find the more traditional trades such as woodworking and metalworking. We have a wide range of machinery to help you build in either of these areas, as well as hand and power tools. We also have storage for members projects.
While basic hand tools are able to be used with volunteer supervision, plant manchines such as the table saw, etc. require an induction to use.
Multimedia Studio
The multimedia room is still in progress, but when complete can be used for audio and video recording and editing, green screening and podcasting. This is also where the streaming trolley lives, which can be used by members with volunteer supervision to record and stream the construction of their projects.
Meeting Room
The meeting room is a common room which can be used by anyone who would like a quiet space to work. Currently in the progress of an upgrade; when complete it will have a TV screen which can be used to present fro meetings or projects requiring a separate screen.
