Volunteers will be emailed their rosters weekly, which includes the areas they are to supervise. If you are unable to work at a time you “usually” are rostered on (or that the Volunteer Coordinator expects you to be available), please email by the Sunday prior. Volunteers are responsible for checking the rosters when emailed and immediately notifying the Volunteer Coordinator if there are any issues.
To be open to the public, it is a requirement that there are two volunteers onsite. If for some reason there is only one volunteer, we must close to the public for that duration. For this reason, it is important to communicate using Slack if you are sick / unable to attend / running late for your shift.
Whilst open, there must be at least one volunteer in the front half of the building at all times. By having someone in the front desk / textile lab / digilab area, it means that the team is always responsive to the entrance of new patrons to the building. When the bell sounds, the incoming person should be greeted, usually by whoever has been assigned “bell” in the roster.
If there is a patron using the workshop, there must be a Workshop Supervisor present.
All Volunteers will be required to complete induction, as well as inductions for commonly requested equipment. It is desirable for volunteers to become familiar with all machines/equipment available, however this does not mean you need to become experts in everything.
Please note:
If you are supervising the makerspace there are some general guides that will help you in your duties.
While Makerspace Adelaide is a community creative space, staff do have the power to ask individuals to leave the premises. If an individual is not abiding by the rules of the space use, IT Policy, WHS Procedures, or any other form of documentation, the staff has the right to request the individual leave the premises. You also have the right to eject anyone who refuses to listen to reasonable instructions or requests from staff.
The space should be checked over regularly and before and after each session to make sure all property of Makerspace Adelaide is still on site.
If there are any patrons who wish to use any of the Main Workshop areas, there must be at least one supervisor in this area to monitor them at all times. This is because it is the most dangerous area within Makerspace Adelaide and therefore needs constant supervision when in use.
Inductions of the patrons should be checked before using the main workshop so you are able to make sure they are allowed to use the machines, tools and working areas.
Any breach of safety by anyone using the Workshop and its tools are to be asked to leave the Workshop and will need to re-do their inductions.
There when a patrons who has been inducted into the Digital Fabrication Lab is using the equipment, loose supervision and guidance is required from the volunteer. If a patron has not been inducted, the volunteer must be the one to run the equipment, however repeat patrons who have not attended an Induction should requested to do so.
This room contains expensive equipment and therefore should be checked over before and after each use by a patron to make sure the property hasn’t been taken. All blinds must be open when patrons are using the room. The Multimedia Lab must be locked when not in use.
This room must stay locked. Volunteers are the only people to access this room. Members are not allowed to access this room without a volunteer present.
